Affordable Housing

Los Angeles, CA

24 Solar Thermal Panels + 1,500-Gallon Storage

To cut operating costs and deliver reliable hot water for residents, this affordable housing agency in Los Angeles County partnered with Maktinta to deploy a commercial-scale solar thermal solution. The challenge was twofold: reduce utility bills for low-income tenants and meet growing pressure to phase out fossil fuel water heating.

Maktinta designed and installed a 24-panel solar thermal array paired with a 1,500-gallon insulated storage tank, optimized for high daily draw and year-round performance. The system is managed by our TEK solar energy controller, which adjusts pump speed based on real-time ΔT and tank demand, ensuring stable delivery and long system life.

The system generates enough solar hot water to cover 1,500 gallons per day, offsetting most of the facility’s gas use and saving residents over $12,000 annually. With remote monitoring, pressure and temperature safeguards, and no added tenant complexity, this project demonstrates how solar thermal can deliver both economic and social impact. Let us help you bring a similar solution to your housing portfolio.
