Commercial HVAC Automation Case Study: Yoga Source Los Gatos
Maktinta designed an integrated energy and HVAC control system for Yoga Source Los Gatos, a 10,000 sq ft wellness facility with dramatically different temperature and humidity requirements throughout the day.
The project combines rooftop solar, battery storage, and custom HVAC automation to manage more than 12 daily condition changes while reducing grid dependence and maintaining precise indoor conditions for each class.

Yoga Source Los Gatos operates a 10,000 sq ft wellness facility offering hot yoga, non heated classes, and reformer based training. Each class requires a different indoor environment. Temperature, humidity, ventilation, and fresh air requirements can change substantially from one session to the next, creating a controls challenge that standard commercial thermostats were not designed to manage.

The facility can require more than 12 temperature changes in a single day across multiple rooms.
A hot yoga class may require dramatically different temperature, humidity, ventilation, and exhaust conditions than the class immediately before or after it.
The system therefore needed to transition between environments quickly while maintaining comfort, indoor air quality, and energy efficiency without requiring staff to manually reprogram thermostats throughout the day.

Custom HVAC Automation
Standard thermostats could not support the number of daily condition changes required by the facility.
Maktinta engineered a custom automation system that coordinates temperature, humidity, ventilation, exhaust, and scheduling across the studio.
Each class can be programmed around its required environmental conditions, allowing the system to prepare the room before the class begins and transition it for the next session automatically.
Facility staff can monitor and update the schedule remotely without physically reprogramming each thermostat.
Solar and Battery Integration
The HVAC controls were paired with an onsite solar and battery system designed to reduce grid dependence and support the facility's significant heating and cooling loads.

Managing a Changing Indoor Environment
The system follows the studio's class schedule rather than relying on fixed thermostat periods.
Temperature and humidity targets are automatically adjusted for each class, while ventilation and exhaust systems respond to the requirements of the space.
Facility staff can monitor conditions remotely and make schedule changes from a connected device without rebuilding the control sequence manually. Overrides are intentionally limited to protect system stability and prevent unnecessary energy use.
